dineLA Restaurant Week Gets Extended Oct 18th through Oct 23rd!

October 15th, 2009

Well, just when I was about to make a post letting folks know that dineLA’s Fall Restaurant Week was coming to a close tomorrow, I popped over to my friend’s site Hills of Woodland and got the pleasant news that they are extending it for another full week!

As he points out, not all of the restaurants may be extending the promotion, but people are invited to check the dineLA site on October 18th for the updated list of restaurants:

dineLA Restaurant Week is being extended Oct. 18-23! Check back Saturday, Oct. 17 for the list of extending restaurants.

I’m very stoked as I haven’t had a chance to take advantage of the promotion just yet! Hopefully I can squeeze it in next week!

I would best describe this segment as pessimisticly optimistic.  Hopefully this Mall will be good for the local economy.

I Guess It’s No Deal…

October 8th, 2009

Apparently the City of Los Angeles has noticed that TV and movie productions are fleeing the Southland.  The LA Times details some of the wholly inadequate proposals just fine recommendations (Free Parking?!?) to address the problem, and notes that Deal or No Deal, once shot at the Culver Studios has officially moved filming:

In a further blow, Connecticut lured away the NBC game show “Deal or No Deal,” which had been based in Culver City.

No word regarding how Deal or No Deal host and germaphobe Howie Mandel finds the bathroom conditions at the new filming location.

Culver City Council Votes to Extend Oil Drilling Moratorium

October 8th, 2009

Los Angeles Wave reports:

The Culver City Council on Monday unanimously approved a moratorium to halt drilling in the Inglewood Oil Field until next August, by when city officials hope to have drafted a new ordinance that ensures the public’s safety and welfare.

The new moratorium will extend one that expires Oct. 8 by 10 months, until Aug. 23, 2010.

The city has until then to enact new laws to promote safety and protect residents interests.

At least one lawsuit is currently pending regarding the matter, and we expect the operator of the oil field, the benevolent sounding (in name, anyway) Plains Exploration & Production Company (a/k/a PXP), to likewise seek court relief.  But hey, it is not like anything bad has resulted from oil extraction in the area.  Oh wait, there was this.  And for you non-readers, view these moving pictures:

A large private memorial was held for Patrick Swayze on the Sony Pictures lot on Sunday.

People Magazine writes:

Guests arriving for Patrick Swayze’s private memorial on Sunday were greeted by a lone white horse, which was owned and beloved by the late actor whose boots were facing backwards in the stirrups.

Held on the Sony Studios lot in Culver City, Calif., the service – attended by several hundred friends and family, including Whoopi Goldberg – incorporated many photos of Swayze riding his horses, along with a video tribute to the star, who died from pancreatic cancer on Sept. 14.
