dineLA Restaurant Week Gets Extended Oct 18th through Oct 23rd!

October 15th, 2009

Well, just when I was about to make a post letting folks know that dineLA’s Fall Restaurant Week was coming to a close tomorrow, I popped over to my friend’s site Hills of Woodland and got the pleasant news that they are extending it for another full week!

As he points out, not all of the restaurants may be extending the promotion, but people are invited to check the dineLA site on October 18th for the updated list of restaurants:

dineLA Restaurant Week is being extended Oct. 18-23! Check back Saturday, Oct. 17 for the list of extending restaurants.

I’m very stoked as I haven’t had a chance to take advantage of the promotion just yet! Hopefully I can squeeze it in next week!

Sarah Silverman Tonight, Tenacious D Saturday @ WTF?! Fest 2009

October 14th, 2009

LAist reports:

You know The Actors’ Gang as one of Southern California’s premiere places for playwrights, actors, directors, and anyone with a serious interest in theatre. You’re probably also familiar with its Artistic Director, Tim Robbins. But, as is always the case with the Gang, the things they’re up to down there in the Substation transcend one man. The WTF?! Festival is about the art world at large, and finding ways to combine tighter purse strings with more openness and cultural relevance, especially in Los Angeles.

Tonight, the will have a screening of Sarah Silverman’s “Jesus is Magic” and afterward she will be on hand for a Q&A, which you can be pretty sure will be laden with F-Bombs.

We just checked the WTF?! Fest website and there are a few tickets still available.  Jack Black’s Tenacious D (I bet the other dude gets pissed that no one ever mentions him) will also be performing live on Saturday.   Check the site for details and ticket info.  Apparently money from these events goes to support the arts and various pretentious celebrity pet-charities, so if you’re into that thing, it’s an added bonus.

WTF? Festival
October 13th – December 19th
Tuesday – Thursday: 7p (8p showtime)
Friday: 8p (9p showtime)
Saturday: 2p matinee, 7p for music events (8:30p showtime)

Centaurs Improve to 4-1 with Tight 35-33 Victory Over Redondo’s Sea Hawks

October 10th, 2009

Didn’t see this article in the South Bay’s Easy Reader until this morning but here was a little background info on the matchup:

Redondo (2-2) travels to Ocean League contender Culver City (3-1) tomorrow for a 7 p.m. contest that marks the final non-league game for both teams. Culver City is coming off its first loss of the season, a 48-7 drubbing at the hands of undefeated Crenshaw (5-0). Redondo defeated Culver City 23-22 in a thriller last season and a win tomorrow will likely propel the Sea Hawks into the CIF Western Division top ten for the first time this season. Culver City is ranked No. 5 in the same division.

Well, my condolences to the South Bay as Redondo wasn’t propelled anywhere except to a sad and weepy busride home.  Go Centaurs!  Final score was 35-33, if we come across and recaps we will post them later today.

ABC7 Segment on Grand Reopening of Fox Hills Mall now Westfield Culver City

October 9th, 2009

I would best describe this segment as pessimisticly optimistic.  Hopefully this Mall will be good for the local economy.

The Point Returns

October 8th, 2009

Hayden Tract workers rejoice, as you have a new revised lunch option.  Per EaterLA, The Point, formerly owned and operated by Kazuto Matsusaka (of Becon), has been resurrected by Capinelle’s Jay Perrin and Mark Peel.

The Point is now open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.  The breakfast and lunch menu is supported by a modest (in price and quantity)  wine list, for those needing a bottle of vino at lunch to face the rest of the work day.

Good Luck to the Culver City Centaurs as They Face the Redondo Beach Sea Hawks Friday @ Home

October 8th, 2009

The Centaurs (3-1) are coming off a stinging 48-7 loss to Crenshaw (4-0) – now ranked #4 in the state – but will hopefully be able to get back in the groove as they host the Redondo Beach Sea Hawks (2-2, on a 2 game streak) this Friday October 9th at 7PM.

Best of luck, Centaurs!  If you go to the game, please post your comments.
